Opera Vivente -- distressing news but with hope for a return

Opera Vivente -- "living opera" -- the Baltimore-based company that performs in English with what I like to call a grand chamber opera style has been forced to cancel its 2011-12 season. The Baltimore Sun's Clef Notes has the news.

The company is looking for a new performance location after lease negotiations at what was to be its new home failed. I was confused, too, but it's my understanding that the move was all set until the proprietor of the new place tried to renegotiate the lease. There are rumblings about other arts organizations having similar experiences with this proprietor.
